Texoma Medical Center Designated as a Level II Primary Stroke Center
Texoma Medical Center (TMC) has been designated a Level II Primary Stroke Facility by the Texas Department of Health Services. The designation means that TMC meets a set of standards that includes a 24-hour stroke team, trained emergency department personnel, a dedicated stroke unit, lab services available 24 hours a day and other criteria.
The state designation comes in addition to Texoma Medical Center's certification as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, the organization that evaluates and accredits hospitals nationwide. Considered to be the gold standard in stroke patient care, certification includes compliance with specific treatment standards that include competency of the staff, continuing education of staff members, patient care, and treatment/education in long-term self-management for patients.
