The Heart Institute at Texoma Medical Center

Here for you. Each step of the way.

Our comprehensive heart program will be there for you every step of the way — from cardiology procedures and open-heart surgery to recovery and rehabilitation.

More than two decades ago, Texoma Medical Center (TMC) began focusing its resources to create a regional center for cardiovascular excellence — The Heart Institute at Texoma Medical Center. Over the years, approximately 24,000 cardiac catheterizations have been performed here. And since 1989, our cardiac surgery team has performed thousands of surgical procedures. Today, The Heart Institute is proud to be one of the premier cardiovascular programs in Texas. After all, the more people we treat, the more people we can return home to their lives.

It’s our range of experience that supports our success. Specially trained physicians, technologists, nurses and support staff bring years of experience into one integrated team—providing the highest quality healthcare possible. This kind of interaction is important because studies show that a heart program’s quality and success rates are tied to its level of experience. When it comes to board-certified physicians, diagnostic equipment, surgical capabilities and history of excellence, The Heart Institute offers top quality cardiac care that patients and their families deserve.

Cardiology

The Heart Institute's cardiologists have dedicated their lives to caring for hearts. With well over 50 years of combined experience, the cardiologists at TMC have performed thousands of cardiac procedures and changed thousands of lives.

A long life with a healthy heart is our goal for each patient. That’s why The Heart Institute pairs definitive interventional techniques with teams of specialists to provide advanced care. The interventional facilities include two fully digital catheterization laboratories. The heart team performs thousands of interventional procedures every year, including about 1,400 cardiac catheterizations and more than 600 PTCAs (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties) and other interventional procedures.

Cardiovascular Surgery

The cardiovascular surgeons at The Texoma Heart Institute are qualified and experienced in the most innovative surgical procedures. Which means they have the experience and skill to care for the one heart that matters most...yours.

The Heart Institute's experienced open-heart surgery team is ready for acute cases. Our cardiac surgeons are supported by cardiac anesthesiologists, perfusionists, specially-trained operating room nurses and heart team lab technicians and clinicians. This team performs delicate surgical procedures on a regular basis, bringing a high level of skill and experience to every case. As a result, many patients are able to go home in less than five days following open-heart surgery.

Beating Heart Bypass

A group of specially trained physicians, technologists and nurses are guided by a talented team of medical directors in the use of advanced technology to perform open-heart surgery while the heart is still beating. With "beating heart bypass surgery" the cardiac surgeons at TMC can operate while a patient's heart continues to pump blood through the body, reducing the risk of complications for patients with certain medical conditions.

These cardiac specialists help each patient reach forward to live a long life with a healthy heart. With backgrounds in cardiac and vascular surgeries, the team employs innovative surgical procedures including “off pump” beating heart surgery. The experience, skills, commitment and knowledge of this staff is what carries us, always, on to the next level of cardiac excellence for our patients.

Heart Mender Volunteers

Heart Mender volunteers are a group of former open-heart surgery patients, PTCA patients, family members and spouses who volunteer their time to help others who are facing open-heart surgery. This dedicated group of volunteers teaches open-heart surgery patients and their families what to expect at each stage of the process. They offer much-needed support and encouragement throughout surgery and recovery.

Heart patients and their families receive continuing support at regular meetings of Texoma Heart Menders: seminars on heart-healthy lifestyles and medical issues, as well as fellowship and support from others who have undergone open-heart surgery or PTCAs.
