Texoma Medical Center (TMC) offers an accredited graduate medical education program with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). This program covers total healthcare for the area population and their families. The program offers a variety of challenging learning opportunities, for diverse patient care and education experiences. TMC is located 75 miles north of Dallas, just south of the Oklahoma border. TMC is owned by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a fortune 500 company. The residency program is approved by the AOA Division of Postdoctoral Training, is currently in Accreditation Counsel of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Pre-Accreditation and meets the requirements for specialty board certification under the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice (AOBFP). Jonathan Williams, MD, Designated Institutional Official (DIO)/Program Director, and Tiffany Thompson, Administrative Manager, lead the program.

Family Medicine Residency Program

TMC’s Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year (36 month) postgraduate program established in July 2015. Both DO and MD faculty attending administer the program curriculum. The program has affiliation with the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center — Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas OPTI, to provide hands-on training for our residents in the Family Medicine program. Core rotations include:

  • Family medicine
  • Emergency medicine
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Internal medicine
  • General surgery

The Continuity of Care Clinic is an integral curriculum requirement, with increasing levels of time dedicated to this component during each successive year of residency training. The Continuity of Care Clinic, located at the Grayson County Health Clinic, serves the uninsured and underserved population of Grayson County.

About TMC

TMC moved to a new facility in 2009 on a 40-acre tract located at the corner of Highway 75 and State Highway 691 on the border of Sherman and Denison Texas. The acute care hospital is licensed for 378 beds (297 acute, 21 rehabilitation and 60 psychiatric).

Over the past few years, TMC has experienced rapid growth and has significantly expanded its service area. TMC’s market share has increased from 31 percent to more than 68 percent since 2008, making TMC the provider of choice for healthcare in the region. Our emergency department treats over 65,000 patients per year, admits close to 20,700 patients and performs approximately 16,600 surgeries and delivers over 1,200 babies annually.
