Texoma Medical Center (TMC) offers an accredited osteopathic graduate medical education program with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). This program covers total healthcare for people and their families. The program offers a variety of learning opportunities, as well as challenging opportunities for diverse patient care experiences. TMC is owned by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), a fortune 500 company. The residency program is approved by the AOA Division of Postdoctoral Training, and meets the requirements for specialty board certification. Rodger Mattson, DO, Director of Medical Education, and Tiffany Manning, Administrative Manager, lead the program.

Family Medicine Residency Program

TMC’s Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year (36 month) osteopathic postgraduate program that began in July 2015. Both DO and MD faculty attending administer the program curriculum. The program has affiliation with the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas OPTI, to provide hands-on training for our residents in the Family Medicine program. Core rotations include:

  • Family medicine
  • Emergency medicine
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Internal medicine
  • General surgery

Continuity of Care Clinic is an integral curriculum requirement, with increasing levels of time dedicated to this component during each successive year of the residency program. Applicants are selected based on academic performance, and personal qualifications regardless of race, sex, color, religion or national origin. About TMC

TMC moved to a new facility in 2009 on a 40-acre tract located at the corner of Highway 75 and State Highway 691 on the border of Sherman and Denison Texas. The acute care hospital is a 370,000 square foot, eight-story facility, and is licensed for 288 beds (207 acute, five nursery, 21 rehabilitation and 60 psychiatric).

Over the past few years, TMC has experienced rapid growth and has significantly expanded its service area. TMC’s market share has increased from 31 percent to more than 50 percent since 2008, making TMC the provider of choice for healthcare in the region. Our emergency department treats over 65,000 patients per year, admits close to 12,000 patients and performs approximately 15,500 surgeries and delivers over 1,100 babies annually.

The active medical staff represents 41 specialties and sub-specialties. As of August 2014, TMC has seen an increase of 14.51 percent in admissions, 3.46 percent in surgical cases and 9.26 percent in ER visits.
